F.A.Q

Here’s the Frequently Asked Questions section. This page would be updated from time to time, so please do check.

…What is FAQ…?

Frequently Asked Questions. Basically a list of questions people ask, and answers we give.

When is [manga title] going to be released?

Depends on how fast the translator/editor work on the chapters. Our staff have a life outside scanlation just like everybody else, so please refrain from asking such questions. If you don’t translate for us, or at least help with something, you get no say in our release speed. If you can’t help it, then we’ll just reply with a very rude answer (Eg. STFU).

Mioka replied really rudely to me! All I asked was “insert question”!

I only reply rudely when I find offense to whatever you say or ask.  Usually it’s because you asked something regarding project status etc in a way I found rude.  So yeah, never ever ask about anything related to project speed and status- I will reply in a very sarcastic and mean manner no matter what.

Can I host your releases on my website?

Yes, but you have to e-mail us for permission. Please include in your email the titles of the manga that you plan to host and your website url. Requesting permission to host licensed releases would be ignored.

Remember, E-MAIL TO OUR GROUP MAIL ONLY!! STOP E-MAILING TO MIOKA’S ACCOUNT VIA THE FORUM!! Requests not made through our group mail WILL BE IGNORED!!

Do you have a waiting period for hosting?

Yes, we do. New releases are to be uploaded only after 7 days while joint releases would be 3 days (May differ depending on the group). Do NOT host our licensed releases.

How do I download releases here?

You can download releases from the main website, forum AND the bots on the IRC Channel.
New releases will be IRC-only release for three days before the direct link is available on the site and forum.
Licensed releases on the other the hand will only be available on the bot and forum only.

How do I use this…IRC-thingy?

We have set up THREE different IRC client tutorials- even one which is compatible on most operating system (XChat). You can choose and read the tutorials here.
And if for some reason you still can’t get onto IRC (which I highly doubt, since as long as you have/download Firefox for ChatZilla), then you really don’t deserve to read the new chapters. Period.

Can I join your scanlation group?

Of course! As of now, we’re only recruiting Japanese to English translators, Crosscheckers and Editors/Cleaners. Please only apply if you are willing to dedicate a good amount of time to translating/editing!

**Crosscheckers are required to take the Japanese Translation Test first before we give the crosschecking test (:

MY FORUM ACCOUNT HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED DX!

Please read this post on what to do (:

[manga title] download link is broken!

Please report here. Do not e-mail us as we will ignore you.

Can you do XXX title?

If you can be a translator/editor/scanner for that series, and it interests a few other staff, we’ll think about it. If not, forget it.

Can our group rescanlate your releases into [another language]?

Your group must:

a) have your own UP AND WORKING website/forum.

b) get your own raws and re-edit them (we won’t provide raws either).
OS only allows the translations to be re-used and NOT the editing/scans. Send us a few pages as proof that you are using your own scans.

c) put OUR credit page in your release, and in your release, your credit page must have our translator’s name(varies with
chapter), our site’s address(http://www.ochibichan.net) and IRC channel address (#ochibichan@irchighway.net).

d) link back to our site at the respective project page your group is doing.

e) e-mail us to inform of your release (Include a download link if possible) when you do release the chapter.

If your group can do/has all those, then please e-mail to Ochibichan-scan’s group e-mail with the following:
* Your groups’ website/forum URL.

* Project title you want to rescanlate.

* A few pages of the raws you’ll be editing with.

We’ll contact you back with our answer asap (usually yes if you did everything right).

However, if you can’t do any of those requirements OR missed any of the basic things I requested OR didn’t request through our group e-mail, then obviously the answer is no (:

I would like to donate some cash to your group.

Sorry, we do not accept money donations. Ochibichan-scan’s philosophy is ‘Scanlation is a free service by fans for fans‘. The only donation we’re accepting is RAW DONATIONS (Aka, you donate scans from a magazine/tankoban you scanned yourself for us). If you really do have loads of cash to spread around, you can help by buying a server for direct links or setting up a XDCC bot at our IRC channel.

Where is the website image from?

For whichever layout you’re using, just scroll to the bottom of the page and you’ll see the title of the series the is image from (:

Hi! We’re from group X and we would like to do a joint for project Y!

Thank you, but no.  After many, many failed joints, OS won’t be agreeing to joints with just any group.  If your group is already understaffed or whatsoever, don’t bother contacting us.  Harsh, but we’ve had too many uber fail joints to think joints are fun and easier.

I keep hearing this ‘mockblog’-thingy. What and where do I access it?!

OSPerverts Only Lare.  Basically a site where OS staff (*cough*perverts*cough) rant and share every day things (:

What’s the server and IRC channel name?

#ochibichan@irc.irchighway.net

I got something that hasn’t been answered yet!

Please post your question at the Questions and Answers thread at the forum. You can also ask your question on our channel for a quick/direct answer OR if worst case scenario, e-mail us.

I’ve read the whole FAQ, but… What is the group’s e-mail address…?

Well, its very simple actually, all you have to do is type ochibichan [dot] scan [at] gmail [dot] com exactly and then figure out what the words in the [ ] mean.
